About This Tour

The Great Migration's river crossings are Africa's single greatest wildlife spectacle — hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra fording the Mara River, with crocodile and predators waiting. This 8-day special is built around maximising your time in front of it: extended days in the reserve, positioned where crossings have been most active, with enough days built in that one quiet morning doesn't cost you the whole trip. Peak season (July–October) books out well over a year ahead, so we're already taking reservations for 2027.

Itinerary

Depart Nairobi for the Maasai Mara, arriving in time for an afternoon orientation game drive to scout current migration positioning.

A full day positioned around the herds' current location, with your guide in radio contact with other vehicles in the reserve to move quickly if a crossing looks imminent.

Another full day, prioritising known river-crossing points where wildebeest have been building up in number.

A slower start to rest from consecutive early mornings, then back out in the afternoon — crossings can happen at any hour, so your guide stays alert to reports across the reserve.

Continued full-day tracking, with time also spent with resident predators — lion and cheetah that shadow the herds for an easy meal.

A shift to a second known crossing point, spreading your chances across more of the herd's likely routes.

Your last full day in the reserve, working wherever the best current activity has been reported.

One last dawn game drive, then breakfast, check-out and the drive back to Nairobi.

No operator can honestly guarantee a specific crossing — it's a wild, weather-driven event. What we can do is maximise your odds: 8 days (not 3-4), full days in the reserve, and a guide network sharing real-time positioning.

Peak crossing season (roughly July–October) books out camps well over a year in advance. If 2027 is your target year, we'd recommend confirming dates and a camp as early as possible.

You can do a shorter migration-season trip (see our 3-day Budget Mara or 4-day Big Five safaris) — but for river crossings specifically, more days in the reserve materially improves your odds of witnessing one, which is why this itinerary runs longer than our standard packages.
