4-Day Samburu Safari — Northern Kenya

About This Tour

North of the well-trodden Mara circuit, Samburu National Reserve holds species you won't find further south: the finely striped Grevy's zebra, the geometric-patterned reticulated giraffe, and the long-necked gerenuk — together with lion, elephant and leopard along the Ewaso Ng'iro river. This 4-day trip trades crowded vehicles for wide-open, semi-arid landscape and species you can't tick off anywhere else in Kenya.

Itinerary

Depart Nairobi for the roughly 5-6 hour drive north to Samburu, with the landscape shifting from highland farmland to semi-arid bush as you go. Arrive for lunch, then head out on an afternoon game drive along the Ewaso Ng'iro river.

A full day tracking Samburu's 'Special Five' — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich and beisa oryx — alongside elephant, lion and the reserve's well-known leopard population.

Continued exploration of the reserve, with time along the riverbank where elephant families come to drink and bathe, especially in the heat of the afternoon.

One last game drive at dawn, then breakfast, check-out and the drive back to Nairobi.
